A Missing AutoCAD® Command by Phil Kreiker of Looking Glass Microproducts.

AutoCAD's STLOUT command creates a faceted representation of an AutoCAD solid, and translates the facet information to Stereo Lithography Apparatus (.STL) format for Rapid Prototyping purposes. AutoCAD's FACETRES system variable controls how AutoCAD triangulates the solid. Setting FACETRES to a higher values creates a finer triangular mesh that more accurately represents the model while creating a much larger file.

Unfortunately, AutoCAD does not provide a complementary STLIN command so that you can view the faceted model and adjust FACETRES for the required resolution. Fortunately, we do.
